SPECIAL YEAR END INFORMATION
Version 4.05 of MAS90 and MAS200 will be arriving in your mailbox. This upgrade includes not only program fixes, enhancements and upgrades - but the latest tweaks to the W2 and 1099-DIV forms.
IMPORTANT: If you are using Payroll, the tax tables must be downloaded from the web this year. No separate tax disk will be sent. Please call if you need assistance with this task. You have to be on MAS 90 or MAS 200 version 3.71 or higher to download this information.
Year End 2004
Best has placed an Interim Release Download (IRD) for year-end program changes to MAS 90 and MAS 200 3.71 and 4.0 out on the BOSS site, so that customers who cannot upgrade to a new version immediately can still create accurate, timely filings of W-2's and 1099's.
Whether you upgraded to MAS 90 or MAS 200 4.0, or decided to stay on a 3.7x version, year-end processing has not changed since last year for the most part. There are a few exceptions to note:
The overall form size for 2004 W-2s has changed.
This means that SAGE Software needed to make an adjustment to the program so that the placement of data will conform to the new W-2 size. This will affect the single-wide and two-per-page form only.
If you have had to change the setting on your four -per-page W-2 forms in prior years, SAGE Software has addressed this issue and is using the standard four-per-page form. Previously, a special form was used and it's no longer available. This enhancement will resolve any confusion as to which four-per-page form to use with MAS 90 or MAS 200.
There is a new Box 12 Deduction Code W Employer contribution to an employee's Health Savings Account (HAS). For additional information on this, please contact the Internal Revenue Service.
Year End Processing Procedures
Order of Closing Chart, Checklists, and FAQs to assist in Year End processing procedures for versions 3.71 and earlier can be obtained by going to:
Year End Processing Procedures or you can find this same information on your Technical Reference and Support Guide (TRSG) CD that came with your current version of MAS 90 or MAS 200.
Dollar signs have been removed on copy A of form W-2 to provide more space.
1099-DIV has changed as follows for 2004:
The boxes for the post-May 5 capital gain distributions and qualified five-year gain have been eliminated.
Magnetic Media has had some program changes to incorporate all the changes for W-2s and 1099-DIV.
Tax Table Updates for the 2005 year will not be shipped or included on the new releases. Tax Table Updates must be downloaded from BOSS. They will be posted on December 10, 2004, and updated as needed throughout December and January.
NOTE: If you don't have access to the Internet and/or Boss site, contact Sunrise Software Consultants, Inc. to have the updates emailed or postal mailed to you. Information on year end processing will be updated frequently on BOSS and your Sunrise Software Consultants will be monitoring these changes to keep you informed.
